Technology Story

So after an exhausting day on France, we were about to reach the top of the Eiffel Tower. Well, at least to the highest point for people to go.
I was so excited. I've been waiting all day for this moment. I was a little bit worried because I left my camera on the hotel room and I had no cellphone. I knew Mark had his cellphone with him so he would take the photograph we needed.
After reaching the top, I asked Mark to take me the photograph so he took his cellphone and got ready to take it. The cellphone suddenly fell from his hand and slip towards the side and fell of the Eiffel Tower.
He was shocked. He almost throw himself off the tower to catch it. But obviously he did not.
By the time we got to the ground we saw it and a  least it didn't fell on somebody's head or something. It was destroyed completely. After all this we just went to a store and looked for someone who could fix it and we really spent all the afternoon trying to find someone.

Essay

Since the people started creating machines, the environment has been affected. From the first motorised car to the airplanes we learned to build some decades ago. The real concern that people have is whether this advance will damage the environment around us. I will examine arguments for and against this topic and draw a conclusion based on the facts.

According to the Santa Clara University, our planet is affected by almost all of the most used energy sources, that is why we should start to rely more on renewable energy sources. People are criticising that the humanity should use more natural renewable sources of energy because they do not damage the environment. In order to advance in technology and sciences to improve people's standards of living, we don't need to harm the environment given that with our renewable sources, the damage we are creating is null. We just need to use a way to create machines within better technology, because the energy they use is not so important.

Secondly, there are too many ways to improve the standards of living.
In order to improve the standards and not damaging the environment we must find the ways that do not involve non-reneweable resources of energy, like fossil fuels.
Ways like using nuclear energy, which accordimg to the UFNPA, a whole nuclear plant creates as much waste as desktop sized box. Furthermore, the technology being used nowadays is starting to rely more on energy sources for their studies, which in the future will diminish the percentage of pollution worldwide.

However, according to the Library of  Economics and Liberty's website, before the industrial revolution, which increased the percentage of pollution, the standards were pretty bad. And after all the fossil fuels and the machines to get them were invented, the standards of living of the people increased.

On the other hand, all the pollution that was produced at the time should've  been diminished if the people had realized that it would create as much damage to the environment as it is known now.

All things considered, the way humanity has to diminish the percentage of pollution is by relying more on renewable sources of energy as much as in the nuclear energy. This way the damage to the environment will be near zero while the improvements to the standards of living of people are being studied and increased. With the use of this types of energy, the environment will be safe from pollution and the standards will improve

Bibliography. APA

1.- Argument in Favor: http://www.scu.edu/ethics/practicing/focusareas/environmental_ethics/lesson7.html

Summary: This article show us that the energy that we are using not only brings benefits, but is also damaging the environment. Nuclear energy is shown as a potentially dangerous source of energy, but that brings enormous benefits because it doesn't produce greenhouse gases and the amount of waste is small compared to how much energy it produces.

2.- Counter-argument:
http://www.econlib.org/library/Enc/IndustrialRevolutionandtheStandardofLiving.html

Summary: The article explains how much the standards of living increased when the industrial revolution took place. The  point that it doesn't show us is how much the environment was being damaged while the humanity didn't noticed it. Even though the advances in science and technology they made were a lot, the damage made is impossible to recover.

Commodus: Adviser! Where are you?!

Adviser: What's happened sir?
Commodus: I just gave a thumbs up to a gladiator, but he wasn't just a gladiatr. he was Maximus Meridas, the old general of the army.
Adviser: What is he doing as a gladiator? You should've killed him, why did you gave him a thumbs up?
Commodus settles on the throne.
Commodus: Because of the croud. They were all yelling at me to do it and I wasn't going to say no. I can't just kill him and expect everyone to be calm. They like him.
Adviser: You should get rid of him before anything happens.
Commodus: And that's exactly what I am planning to do.

Technology story

So after an exhausting day on France, we were about to get in the elevator o the Eiffel Tower. Well, at least to the highest place possible and then we will start walking.

I was so excited. I've been waiting all day for this moment. I was a little bit worried because I had left my camera on the hotel room and I had no cellphone. I knew Mark had his cellphone with him, so he would be able to take the photos.

We got into the elevator and half way to the top, it stopped. I freaked out. I got close to Mark and started praying for it to work. I was about to scream when the lights turned on again and the elevator continued its path.

We finally got to the top. I didn't even wanted to go down again but I knew I had to. The moment Mark took the photograph of us at the top of the Eiffel Tower, the cellphone ran out of battery. I was so mad that I couldn't believe it. After all that we went through to get ther, we weren't going to have a memo.

Mark told me to calm down and so I did.
We went back again and luckily the elevator didn't stopped again.

The moment we got to land, I bent on my  knees and started kissing it. I was finally reliefed.

Letter of protest

700 Vicuña Mackena

Viña del Mar

Prime Minister David Cameron

Council

United Kingdom

12 May 2014

Dear Mr. Cameron,

I am writing to express my concern about the people killed the day of the massacre in the U.K. A lot of protestants, with nothing more than banners and megaphones, were killed that day in the marchs, being that the reason why it's called the "Bloody Sunday". A day when the power of the government was shown in a catastrophic way against the people.

I am particularly concerned about the power the government has. Guns weren't suppose to be used against the demonstration. This shows an overpowered government. The rights of the people disappeared at the time when people can't even take part in the decisssions of the country. The march was a clear example of the government being unfair. As so it was pacific until the soldiers started shooting at protestants.

The fact is that there was a lot of victims that day. Think about the families. A lot of them lost their children, and most importantly their parents. Without their parents they were forced to work for money, because otherwise they wouldn't have been able to pay for all the expenses. The amount of money had much importance on their development as a person. The emotional side is also very important in this situation, because nobody is going to return the family members of people involved in this event. These are the two big consecuences of all the people that were unfairly killed.

As an example of what happened, there is an article on the BBC website. It tells the story of a 17 year old protestant that joined the march on the day of the "Bloody Sunday". He was killed by a soldier that shot him on his spine. His family was shocked. Her mother was depressed as so as his brother. A while after that the mother was ill, and died a year later. You can see not only the effect it caused to politics, but the effect it caused on families.

It is for these reasons that I would like to ask you, the Prime Minister, to provide help to the people affected by this event. What I mean by helping them, is to support them with money for the damage it caused to families, that without their parents they had to work for it.

I look forward to your response.

Yours truly,

Kiyoshi Shinya

Catcher's questions Chptr. 4

1.- Holden and Stradlater are friends. Even though they bother themselves a lot with little insults and by wrestling, they care about each other enough to make each other's homework (Holden) and to do things as telling girls things when they can (Stradlater).
2.- Holden's reaction when Stradlater says her name is quite shocking. He didn't even believed what Stradlater had just said. She was one of Holden's friends, almost the only person he didin't considered as a phony.
3.- He said he wasn't in the mood to do it and that he would do it later. He really wanted to, but he cound't conceive the fact that she was there.

International Organizations

World Vision: Evangelical Christian and humanitarian organization for development.
World Trade Organization: It pretends to create a better trading system
United Nations: It keeps peace around the world.
Greenpeace: They protect the diversity of natural life.
European Union: Economic and political organization formed by 28 members, located in Europe.
International Monetary Found: Global monetary cooperation, secure finances and stability in economy.
1.- They bring ideas and promote the projects to hep the global issues and in most cases they also help the country's independent project to make it bigger.
2.- Because as big as they are, the support they can give is a lot.
3.-Stop pollution, protect the diversity of natural life and the atmosphere and pursue a nuclear-free world.
4.- Because they are things that a country's government doesn't have the time to worry about.
5.- Because they want to keep their independence.
6.- The success relies on agreements and cooperatino between the conflicting parties.
7.- By creating this protocol to monitor greenhouse's gas emissions, and reduce the global greenhouse effect.
8.- Because their economy could fell.
9.- That countries could refuse to accept it.

Catcher's questions Chpter. 1-3

1.- Holden star lying quite a lot because he didn't wanted Mr. Spencer to know about being kicked and all. Yes, half of the time.
2.-  The comment is suppose te mean the you are suppose to follow life's rules, such as school. Holden acts like if he agrees, but he really didn't.
3.- Yes, because both of them are teachers that try to help the main character, in this case Holden.
4.- Because he thinks there are too much phonies, such as the headmaster.
5.- That he often acts like a 12 year old kid, even though he's 17. The other one means that he rather lie that get into a stupid trouble, in some way.
6.- He wants to tell what a good liar he is, but how bad it is to lie. He lies about agreeing with someone and often about places he has to go, but just to avoid some situations.
7.- That reading makes you smarter in some things such as literature and culture. So being illiterate would be the exact oppossite.
8.- He thinks Ackley bothers a lot and he calls him a phony. But he considers him as a friend after all and in a way he cares about him.
9.- According to Ackley he is egocentric and thinks he is better that everyone but according to Holden he is a good roommate and quite simpathic.
10.-Feeling sorry for something is for when you don't reaaly know the thing or person too much. Caring is a bigger feeling, more for friends and people you know.
11.- That depends on your point of view. As long as you dislike the person in any sort of social way, you could think he is a phony. So it depends on how the reader associates Holden's point of view with their own.

Loses/Find Story

                    Lost life

I could not believe it. It happened that afternoon. Why me? That afternoon I was just back from the centre. The door was open and as soon as I got in I saw everything like a disaster. But most importantly, my jewelry was gone. Thousands of dollars gone.
I broke into tears. But after a few minutes I got myself together and thought a little. The first thing I needed to do was to call the police and tell them what had just happened. I got the phone and called the station. When they came in to check everything that was missing, they help me realize that not only the jewelry was gone but also a few electronics. I didn't really cared about those so much. "We'll call you as soon as we found something." And those words from the officer actually help me to calm myself.
Three days had passed and I was still hoping for "that" call. You maybe think that is just normal jewelry but its not. The jewelry is the equivalent of my retire money. I was hoping to sell them as soon as I'm not able to work anymore. I'm 74 years old by the way. I ran into depression a day after the event happened. It was just too much for me. So many years gone. What was I suppose to do?
I was about to burst into tears once more and the phone rang. The only thing I wanted, was the police at the other side of the phone. The same voice that helped me calm myself the first time, was on the phone right now. I was crying again. But this time for joy, the jewelry was back. I could not believe it.
